Each year 50,000 people eligible citizens are granted green cards to live and work in the United States of America based on the results of a random drawing.
The reason for drawing more than 50,000 names is that not everyone selected will start the green-card application process, and some who do will not complete it.

1. FAMILY MISCONCEPTION:
You can include your spouse and any children 20 years or younger, on your DV Lottery application. If your application is selected, your spouse and unmarried children 20 years and younger will also receive a Permanent Resident card.
But if you want to get your family involved then you have to include them during the entry stage. You can also take them along if you married or had kids after the registration period.
2. ACCOMODATIONS AND EMPLOYMENT:
The U.S government does not provide accommodation and employment for winners.
Many people believe that apartment, job and air ticket are provided by the US government to subsequent winners. This is not true
Winners are however promised of permanent residency (Green Card). Winners of the American Lottery Program are required to indicate the address or state where they would want their green cards posted to.
Therefore it is recommended that winners have accommodation arrangements done before attending visa interviews. Winners are required to purchase their air ticket, look for their own employment once the green card has been granted.
3. THERE IS NO MONEY CHARGED AFTER WINNING:
It is not true that winners are charged to pay specific amount after selection. People sometimes pay so much money because they engaged third parties during the registration. It is recommend that you do the registration yourself to avoid any third party charges.
Note: apart from the visa fee and medical examination, you’re not required to pay any fee for being selected.
4. SUBMITTING MORE THAN ONE ENTRY:
The law governing the DV Lottery immigration program only allows one entry for each person during each DV Lottery year. Individuals that submit more than one entry are disqualified from the DV Lottery.
However, in the DV Lottery program, married couples have an advantage in that they may each submit a DV Lottery application and include each other on the applications, resulting in the couple doubling their chances of being selected in the DV Lottery.
