Thomas Partey on Barcelona radar for a possible January transfer

Ghanaian international, Thomas Parey has missed the majority of the last two months due to a groin ailment, which he is now rehabilitating from.

Although Partey resumed light training last week, it seems unlikely that the midfield player will play again before early in 2024.

Nevertheless, because to Declan Rice’s strong play and commanding no. 6 position, sources indicate Arsenal may be considering Partey’s departure in January.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the 30-year-old is being watched by La Liga powerhouse Barcelona, and a deal may occur when the market opens.

It is rumored that Xavi’s team is searching for a long-term replacement for midfielder Gavi, who is sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Partey played a pivotal role for Arsenal in their thrilling run to second place in the Premier League the previous year.

He has, however, struggled with persistent ailments, and the club’s management is rumored to be quite concerned about his unavailability.

The former Atletico Madrid anchorman was considering leaving last summer, when Saudi Arabian teams and Juventus both expressed interest.

Though he eventually stayed at Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta moved him to right-back to make room for Rice and fellow summer addition Kai Havertz. However, he was eventually sidelined by injury.

In the meantime, Chris Hughton, the head coach of Ghana, will be counting on Partey to fully recuperate in time for the January 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Stars have been assigned to a challenging group that includes Mozambique, Egypt, and Cape Verde.
